Brooklyn Water Bagel

It all begins with an idea.

UPDATE 2/27/2022: Headed back after an almost 3 year hiatus. My father had mentioned on our morning run that he wanted breakfast. First it was Einstein’s. Then it was BWB. No more decision-making necessary. Our bill and my notes:

  • 1 Stud muffin=$3.29

    • It was so funny. No one at the front knew what this was. It was a chorus of “cranberries, walnuts, um” and “some nuts, almonds, blueberries.” That should tip anyone off immediately. It doesn’t get ordered very often, But, my dad wanted something similar to his Einstein’s power bar, and so we ordered it. She offered to toast it, but he declined. It honestly is very dense and very white, with the toppings amounting to most of the contents. Some walnuts snuck into the batter, but that was it. It came out cold because of the refrigerated case. My first bit of advice: say yes when they offer to warm it up. I warmed up my half when I got home, and it was definitely better. Something about the heat broke down the density and really added some comfort. My second tidbit is if you are looking for healthy, fruity, or any of that, skip this. Head over to Publix (right next door) before and grab a Nutrigrain bar or something. Less calories, more nutritious, and more fruity.

…I couldn’t help myself. I had to Google it later, and see what really was in this thing: “pecans, walnuts, almonds, raisins, blueberries, flax seeds, whey protein, oat bran, whole grain flour.” This muffin is a classic case of too much of a good thing is not necessarily a good thing.

  • 1 Garlic bagel + Scallion cream cheese + Mushroom + Tomato + Sautéed spinach=$4.76

    • Felt a little small this time around. My father made a remark while we ate that these were probably less caloric than Panera. Dear god. Do not Google it. We decided to on the way home and, spoiler alert, they’re worse. Nevertheless, it didn’t matter. We enjoyed it, and I would happily go back again and again (my dad’s exact plan when buying half a dozen to go). Undeniably, the mushrooms definitely make it. Get them. And, although I don’t normally order tomato separately, I was so glad that I did. The tomato slice was 0.5-0.75 inches thick. To be honest, I was a little disgruntled by the size and the amount of cream cheese, so I might just do bagels and shmear to go. I think I’d prefer that. Or I might add something (turkey sausage, avocado, etc.) to The Greenpointand call it a day. I just can’t get over that they scoop it though. That is a bagel sin…

  • 2 20 oz. Coffee=$5.38

    • B – Every coffee cold at 11 a.m. on a Sunday aside from the Brooklyn Infusion, the coffee I also happened to settle on. Characterized as a blend of vanilla, caramel, and Kahlua flavors, I did happen to like it more than both the Brooklyn Medium Roast and the Brooklyn Dark Roast. The other options were Brooklyn Decaf (if you think I tried this, we can no longer be friends) and the Winter Wonderland (White chocolate, caramel, and coconut). I applaud them for the variety and the efforts above and beyond (timers were stuck to each urn), but I will say that I wish that the depth of flavor had been present for at least one of these brews. They sold bags of their Drunken Pig beans at the front, not sure if they rotate between flavors on the urns. So one might be able to experiment each week or choose to take a bag home and brew it better. Sitting, it’s easy to get one’s money’s worth. The long and short: if flavor is desired at all when grabbing a morning cup here, seems that going with the roided up—what they call a “guiltless dessert”—is the best bet which is semi-disappointing.

  • 1 Bulk 6 Bagels=$7.49

  • 1 The Greenpoint (on sesame) = $6.99

  • Charge Tip=$1

Note: I got the garlic bagel and my dad and I split the stud muffin. So, if anything doesn’t have a note, that is why.

As my dad pointed out, the milk dispenser now offered almond milk. Good 😊
