UPDATE 9/29/2021 (See below): Stopped in with my father for our weekly Wednesday breakfast, on the dot at 8AM. He got a regular hot latte (whole milk; $4.25) and the granola cereal bowl (maple house granola, chocolate chips, shaved coconut, berry compote, bananas; vegan and gluten-free; $8.50) while I got an iced Blue Majik latte (Blue Majik, CBD, lavender, lemon, agave, almond milk *supports digestive health and thyroid function enhances mood, and decreases irritability; $7) and vegan breakfast sammie (organic almond crusted tofu, lentil sausage, buttermilk ranch dressed kale, sriracha aioli, brioche bun; vegan; $11). Both the hot and cold drinks came out in Huskee cups. They have a cool look, but in addition to that the name comes from the fact that coffee husks are used as a raw material in their creation. I kind of made a joke about how much they probably cost to my dad, only to find out that they do actually run about $20-25 per cup.
He told me he liked his latte (fewf), but then dove me into a conversation about nut milks after I pointed out that, much like in 2018, the barista once more asked if he wanted to sub his milk, but didn’t mention that it cost extra (only difference this time was that the added $1 for almond or oat was displayed on the menu). He liked his granola bowl too, however I thought it was a bit on the small size. Once he added the milk, it seemed to grow by two, and he didn’t say anything (except that he might start adding wild blueberries to his granola from now on), so I guess on the whole he didn’t mind it too much. As for me, the Blue Majik latte was very interesting. The flavors came together—particularly the lemon and spirulina—at the end of each sip, but it wasn’t ever overpowering by any means. The journey to that end flavor however can best be described by the taste of leftover Flinstones cereal milk. For some, this might be a turnoff. I stand strictly unopposed. I’d get it again, next time perhaps hot just to see if the flavor profile would be expressed differently at an increased temperature. And, the vegan breakfast sammie, although nothing special, was favorable. Somehow visually, the tofu does have the yellow of an egg yolk and the lentil sausage together with it does seem like a sausage patty. On the whole, it was very nice and didn’t leave me feeling empty which was unexpected. I probably wouldn’t get it again, especially for the price tag, however it is definitely something to try (especially if you actually follow a vegan diet).

UPDATE: I’ve returned here multiple times since this first visit. Took my father here for a cortadito, did some studying (and withstood the excruciating monkey baby that echoed up into the rafters) another time, met one of my best friends of recent years—a barista named Lee—here, returned on his last day (3/30/21) before he took off on a photography career…although it closes earlier than I’d prefer, it’s a good spot. Also, the people they hire…somehow they have an eye for mining gems.
