Camelot

It all begins with an idea.

UPDATE: I realize that when I went here again in November, I forgot to update the blog. Just know that I’m back here all the time. However, while an old friend of mine was in town yesterday, I ended up here again as is only fitting. She had only eaten half of her pesto and pine nut pasta, which she offered up to me. I took her up on it, not having eaten, and it was yummy. Just in case you’re looking for food. Now, the better part. She and I sat and, having just finished her raspberry beer, we decided to glance at the drinks menu to see how we could prolong our stay. We both got the Raspberry Grzaniec (w/ actual, fresh raspberries floating in it) and it was delightful. I always have to consider cost here though at Camelot (it’s well-known and charges a little higher than normal), but with all the fruit, the 14.5zł price tag wasn’t half bad. We enjoyed our time. As always however, when it came to the bill, things took a turn. It was a little after 23:00 and I guess they stop taking card at some point, but failed to tell us. So, Kristin had to go run to an ATM. Paying here is never fun, that’s all there is to it.

Circa 2014.

UPDATE: So, unfortunately circumstance brought me back here. I needed to buy something in order for someone I was with to use the facilities. I decided to buy an Espresso Macchiato for 8.9zł. It rang up at 10.9zł. I asked the woman again if she had rung me up for the Macchiato. She affirmed this, and I thought the price on the register was just wrong. When I counted my money, while rushing out, I realized she had really charged me 10.9zł. If it was 2zł for the to-go cup, then kill me now. I should mention that the place was absolutely empty. Figures.

Update: Went back 3 days later by chance. I wanted to order the cinnamon latte that they had posted on the window for 8.90z. However, the whole to-go menu was rewritten. There were only 3 options and the prices were higher than before. This seems to be a very inconsistent menu. So, I went inside and asked the lady whether she could still make in for me to go and for how much. Everything was the same. She wasn’t frustrated or annoyed with me at all, very civil and understanding. And the drink: a very foamy latte with a lot of cinnamon on top. Just how I like it. Incredible.

UPDATE: While my parents were in town last week, I took them by this spot. Yes, the lady was still very angry (so I think it’s a personality thing), but as long as you don’t let that bother you, it’s great. My dad got a slice of Szarlotka (apple cake) as well as a slice of Sernik (Polish cheesecake). I got the Owocowy Tort na śmietanie (Creamy fruit cake) and I enjoyed it very much. My mother ordered their Brownie. I tried a bit and thought it was good but she, being a chocolate connoisseur and all proclaimed it too dry and didn’t finish it. If you’re picky about your chocolate like she is, I’d advise another place. They both sipped gladly on their Cappuccinos though; no complaints uttered :)

UPDATE: Took an out-of-towner here just to recoup and drink before going out to find a gay club. But, the character that emanated from this place—bartenders tossing back shots and sipping drinks on their way out, sing-shrieking “Sto Lat,” getting served another delightful cappuccino and maybe the best Irish Coffee I’ve ever had—we stuck around a little longer than necessary.
